Orlando Kitchen Remodeling and  Kitchen Cabinet Conversions

1/7/2017

Have you been stalling on Orlando kitchen remodeling because your cabinet placement plans leave one or more odd, skinny spaces? Great news! Narrow cabinets aren’t just for baking sheets anymore.  We checked out ideas for using otherwise awkward space in your kitchen remodel. Here are a few favorites:

Store and Display Your Favorite Wines

Convert the space into a rack for displaying or storing your favorite wines. For a do-it-yourself project, you can find directions online for building a wine rack that will fit your narrow space, but you’ll need several wood working tools and a little experience. If building your own is not your style, but you still want to DIY, pre-made 1-column wine racks that can be used as-is or adapted to your space are available online. These may have the option for roll-out shelves. Pre-made racks also come with or without the cabinet face, providing the option of converting an existing area into a wine rack.

Depending on the size of the wine bottles you want to store or display, the space can be as narrow as 4 ½ inches, but 6 inches will allow for more flexibility in the size of the bottles. The standard 27-inch kitchen cabinet height provides room for your private, 6-bottle wine collection.

Extra Space For Your Pantry Items

Pre-made, pull-out units can be found for 3, 6, or 9-inch spaces. Available with three or four shelves, 3-inch base cabinets can be used for small bottles, jars, cans of soup, or boxes of pasta. Top cabinets are perfect for spices and wine glasses. Storage bags and rolls of foil also fit. Of course, the wider cabinets give more flexibility for storage, including some canisters. But don’t just think food and food preparation items. A 6-inch base can provide enough space for cleaning products and paper towels. The 9-inch holds most cookbook sizes.

Instead of shelves, top and base cabinets have an organizer option with pegs that can be re-positioned. Even the 3-inch base allows room to hang pan lids, barbeque tools, or similar cumbersome items.

Maximize Space for Cleaning Supplies

When the narrow space is at the end of the row of cabinets, you can choose between having a cabinet door, open shelves, or racks. The cabinet door option provides a convenient pantry area where everything is easily seen. A closed, top-to-floor area at least six inches wide makes a handy closet for cleaning supplies.  Choose the peg-board back for endless possibilities for hanging brushes, brooms, and other cleaning tools. Even children’s backpacks can be hung out of sight here.

Take Advantage of Open Shelving

Open shelves let you add plants and decorative elements. Store your cookbook collection while displaying it on 9-inch shelves or a 5-inch book rack. Show off your prettiest dishes on a plate rack. A very narrow end cap can be the perfect place to organize the family with a calendar and chalkboard.
